About

I am a survivor of multiple strokes. Four to be exact, although one of them was not known to me as a stroke until my most recent stroke on March 29, 2017…

But I am much more than my strokes and I refuse to let them control how I live. I already eat decently, although everything has room for improvement. I am not a smoker/drinker/party person and never have been. Exercise? Well, that’s one thing that can be improved and will be…

All I am saying is I’m not your “typical case study” of stroke victim.

I have hypertension, but not such that I take medication daily. I don’t take meds unless my systolic number reaches 140 or above and that’s not very often…
I have high cholesterol, but only because I’ve had a heart attack before so my “70” is considered high because of that.

Oh yeah — that reminds me… I have also had a heart attack. In the time period between stroke #1 and stroke #2, there was that. But I’m still kicking!!! I am still above the dirt when I could be six feet under it. I still am “healthy” all things considered. It wasn’t until this recent stroke that I suffered any residual physical impairment, which we all are hoping will resolve itself.

This blog is dedicated to recording my journey. For me. And for you. Because I know there are others out there who are going through the “head space” of having had a stroke. There are family members and loved ones going through the difficulty of supporting and caring for their family member who has suffered a stroke. And there is me, Simply Sumaiyah, an Artist and Author who is living with this phenomenon in her life.

Sharing my story helps me get it out of my head, thereby allowing the head space to heal emotionally. I hope my ramblings and musings help to uplift and empower you to thrive with this dis-ease and not just live with it. Whether or not you have residual physical impairments due to stroke, thriving is the key. Don’t just accept your condition and “live with it.” I want you THRIVING!

That’s what I plan to do…
